Maximus Circus is the greatest show of the future empire. It’s where Ancient Rome meets Tron and light meets dark with the Triangle’s most outstanding fire, acrobatic and aerial artists. The debut show will be at Raleigh Wide Open on July 31, 2010.
PRODUCERS: GAMIL DESIGN
Gamil Design is a branding and product design firm in downtown Raleigh. In addition to client-based design work, they have led and supported the creative community of Raleigh for years, including founding Designbox (a group of independent creative firms and art gallery) and being founders and directors of SPARKcon (an annual festival celebrating the creativity of the NC Triangle). Gamil and other Designbox members partnered with the Raleigh Convention Center to facilitate an ideation session for how to positively effect a neighborhood that would be impacted by the dumped dirt from the building of the Convention Center. Gamil was also integral in facilitating a creative session of city leaders and citizens that led to City Plaza on Fayetteville Street.
All of these activities came together with a discussion with the Raleigh Convention Center about Raleigh Wide Open, and the inevitable statement “Wouldn’t it be great if there was a circus?”
So, here they are, producing Maximus Circus for the 5th annual Raleigh Wide Open.
TALENT COORDINATORS: KACI TORRES and KATIE MAGEE BOUTERSE of AcroEntertainment
Kaci Torres and Katie Magee Bouterse founded AcroEntertainment in 2007, aligning their business-mindedness with their acrobatic skills. Kaci and Katie share a vision of downtown Raleigh as a place for artists and performers to showcase their talents and share unique skills with the public. They have been seen sharing that vision in festivals in downtown Raleigh and other cities since their beginning. Last year they were involved with SPARKcon and for September 2010 have created circusSPARK to show off the serious (and fun!) circus talent of the area.
For Maximus Circus, Kaci and Katie have facilitated a relationship between local performers and the city of Raleigh, to create an evening of fantastic stunts, spontaneous happens, and extreme pyrotechnics. Along with Gamil Design and the Raleigh Convention Center, Kaci and Katie are proud to present downtown with Maximus Circus, a spectacular show featuring a collective of triangle-based performers and their innovative talents.
